Metal Blade have added Italian Doomster MESSA to it’s worldwide roster.
MESSA play evoking doom metal with middle-eastern vibes. Deliciously haunting female vocals, 70’s guitars and Arabian Oudh combine to conjure a sound that is all of their own. With influences as diverse as Dead Can Dance, Om, Swans, Killing Joke, Electric Wizard, Thergothon, Current 93, the band has moved from the first occult then noir-tinged doom metal of their previous works to a new atmospheric mediterranean sound which is unique. The evolution is clearly showcased in their latest studio album “Close”.
Watch the Official Video for “Pilgrim” BELOW:
MESSA emerged in the first day of 2014. Marco and Sara started to develop the basic concept while writing the first songs. Later on, Alberto and Rocco joined the band. The extreme diversity of their musical background immediately proved to be essential in the construction of the band’s sound. In 2016 their first opus “Belfry” was released, and the band made several tours across Europe and USA. In 2018 their second work “Feast For Water” brought the band on tour even more extensively. Their latest studio work “Close“, released in 2022, was acclaimed by critics and was defined “the sound of a band fleshing out their place in doom metal’s past, present and future” (Metal Injection). Some appearances made by the band were Hellfest Open Air, Roadburn, and Desert Fest. The band’s latest record Live At Roadburn was released April 7th 2023, offering their main-stage triumph, joined by a unique constellation of musicians and instruments. Seeming to both embrace and defy everything it means to be a metal band, MESSA mesh Mediterranean sounds with crushing doom riffs, with an emphasis on atmosphere and unusual use of instrumentation.
Comments MESSA:

Italian metal titans announce their 10th studio album, SLEEPLESS EMPIRE, their first collection of new songs since 2019’s Black Anima, with their new single Oxygen. The new song comes with a mesmerizing new music video, filmed in Latina and directed by Daniele Tofani, that shows singer Cristina Scabbia in the lead role.
Watch the Official Video for Oxygen BELOW:
Cristina Scabbia commented on the track and her experience filming the video:
“Oxygen” is a powerful exploration of emotional struggle and inner conflict. The lyrics convey a sense of drowning in a toxic environment, both literally (in the video) and metaphorically, where attempts at salvation, represented by “oxygen” are somehow futile. This song encapsulates the feeling of struggling to break free from what holds us down, when the journey is filled with difficulty. It’s a raw anthem of vulnerability, resilience, and the courage to face what seems insurmountable. Having to stay in the water for so many hours during the video shoot was cathartic for me, the realisation that the pleasant sensation of floating could in an instant become dangerous and deadly if I wasn’t careful was very fitting with the song’s theme.
Inspiration to create Sleepless Empire came during the sessions for Comalies XX (2022), the acclaimed remake of their breakthrough record of the same title. Writing and recording took place in northern Italy between Milano, the band’s hometown and Como, where SPVN Studios are located. As with their previous albums, production was done in house with Marco “Maki” Coti Zelati at the helm, and artwork was hand curated by the talented Italian artist Roberto Toderico. Two other very special talents enrich the album, namely the guest vocalists, Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe on the song “Hosting the Shadow” and New Year’s Day’s Ash Costello on “In The Mean Time”.
As a token of the band’s love for the gaming world (which we’ve seen in past endevours such as their card game “Horns Up” and their collaboration with Zombicide for which they wrote the track “Never Dawn”), the band have created an oracle “game” to be played with custom made dice available only in the box set version of SLEEPLESS EMPIRE.
The new album comprises 11 new tracks; and each one is a richly textured soundtrack to a specific time and a place. With Sleepless Empire, that place is dark, cinematic, and unmistakably true to the unique characteristics that have given Lacuna Coil such a celebrated entry in the annals of heavy music.
The band shares:
Sleepless Empire captures, through our eyes, the chaos of a generation trapped in a digital world that never stops, where social media consumes identity and every day pushes us one step closer to becoming soulless zombies. We find ourselves in between, having witnessed a full analogic world and the modern one, confronting the evolution and searching for a true meaning of it all. Throughout every song, the journey is an undercurrent of rebellion, a desperate cry to reclaim oneself in an era that seems to have lost its sense of time and reality.

French female-fronted modern metal act Pyrah is thrilled to announce the release of their latest video for the single “End Of The Slope“, taken from the critically acclaimed album Veni Vidi Delevi, available now via Wormholedeath. Known for their powerful blend of aggressive riffs and emotionally charged lyrics, Pyrah delivers a fresh take on modern metal with a fierce, unmistakable edge.
“End of the Slope” takes you deep into the shadows of regret and emotional torment. A relentless cycle of guilt, haunting memories, and suffocating isolation—fear and hope collide in this extreme metal journey. Prepare to face the darkness within.
Watch the Official Video for “End Of The Slope” BELOW:
Veni Vidi Delevi showcases Pyrah’s evolution into a force to be reckoned with. Combining early metal influences with a modern twist, the record is packed with crushing guitar work, dynamic rhythms, and the striking vocals of their powerhouse frontwoman. Fans of Once Human, Jinjer, and Vexed will find much to love in this bold, unapologetic offering. Prepare to lose yourself in the headbanging chaos!
The band’s path to this moment has been anything but conventional. After the success of their 2019 single “Stumble” from Part of the Ghost World, PYRAH embarked on their most ambitious project yet. Despite navigating lineup changes and a self-production journey that tested their limits, their efforts caught the discerning eye of WormholeDeath. The result? Veni Vidi Delevi—a powerful reflection of their growth, infused with a darker, more aggressive edge inspired by their Italian studio surroundings and personal introspection.

Two years ago, the band entered the scene with their bombastic self-titled debut album, delivering a fresh sound and unique style that interprets modern metal in a creative way. Now, the German quartet is about to make a ferocious statement with their second album, Galvanize. Their most successful song, “Wolf or Lamb”, reached over 1 million streams, and beyond this, they demonstrated their raging live performance at major festivals like Metalfest, Rock Harz, Baltic Open Air and Castle Rock, as well as an absolute kick-ass show at Summer Breeze in 2023. In addition, they took various stages by storm as support for German stadium rockers Kissin’ Dynamite, metalcore heroes Caliban on their German tour, and the legendary Kamelot on their European tour. LEAGUE OF DISTORTION on “Chainsaw”:
“Our new single ‘CHAINSAW’ cuts deep with its unapologetic commentary on the brutality of life, injustice, and karma. It channels our rage and frustration of living in a world where greed and hypocrisy reign. The song serves as both a warning and a catharsis — reminding us that vengeance and consequence are inevitable. This track is a sonic explosion of rebellion, a visceral call for justice in a broken system.”

Rising Italian power metal outfit FROZEN CROWN have unveiled the guitar-driven title track “War Hearts” alongside a powerful official music video. Taken from their new studio album and Napalm Records debut, War Hearts, out on October 18, 2024, the uplifting track combines the strong message of fighting for your dreams with incredible vocal expertise and ultimate high-speed riffs. Determined to make it through the rough storm as war angels, relentless drums merged with a thrilling guitar solo by newest member Alessia Lanzone reflect the confident atmosphere.
With their youthful, raw and passionate approach to metal, FROZEN CROWN have garnered significant media exposure with their previous four albums and their massive hit, “Neverending”, which has gathered over 11 million views on YouTube to date. The band has further cemented their reputation with their dynamic live performance with legendary acts like U.D.O. in 2023.
Place your pre-order now and listen to “War Hearts” below for another taste of what’s to come!
FROZEN CROWN on the new single “War Hearts“:
“We’re overly excited and proud to introduce our new album’s title track ‘War Hearts’ and to unveil its official videoclip! ‘War Hearts’ was the first song we wrote for the new album and it’s meant to be a statement about how fast and uncompromising the rest of the album is going to be. It’s also the first song to mark the appearance of our young new guitar player Alessia and her blazing solos.
The video is once again settled in Italy, between the windy ruins of the Avigliana Castle, and once again portrays the band in the rawest manner possible, without any kind of post-production or artifice involved.”
Check out the Official Music Video for “War Hearts” BELOW:
Founded in 2017, the relentless band has performed at several festivals like Sabaton Open Air, Metal Fest Plzen and Rock Imperium Festival, headlined two Japanese tours and followed extensive European touring with significant bands such as DragonForce and Nanowar Of Steel – topped by an upcoming tour with Kamelot this fall! Joined by their newest member, 18-year-old guitar prodigy Alessia Lanzone, the band’s characteristic sound has been expanded by her skills, adding depth and complexity to their performances.
Featuring all members on the recording for the first time, War Hearts symbolizes a fresh start and pays homage to the legendary Children Of Bodom with its album title, a band that inspired FROZEN CROWN’s youthful, raw and passionate approach to metal. Addressing themes of self-improvement, awareness, personal growth and inner struggles, the fast-paced track “Steel And Gold” creates an uplifting atmosphere with energetic harmonies while “I Am The Wind” features soaring choruses with dual vocals from frontwoman Jade and guitarist Federico, ingenious guitar riffs, and perfectly blended drums, while the lyrics inspire listeners to let go like the wind and rise to shine again. To wrap up the album, tracks like “Edge of Reality”, inspired by the ’86 Highlander movie, and “Bloodlines”, referencing the Vampire: The Masquerade series of board and video games, showcase the band’s colorful storytelling.
FROZEN CROWN constantly define and refine their sound, pushing their trademark elements to new levels of complexity without forgetting the characteristic catchy hooks. War Hearts exceeds their previous successes and solidifies their place in the global metal scene!
“War Hearts is our fifth album, but it’s also the first one as a 6-piece band and the first one on Napalm Records. It’s also the first album where all members actually make their appearance on the recording. For these reasons, War Hearts represents a new beginning, a fresh start, and it may be considered the first episode of Frozen Crown “reboot”. We wrote and arranged this album acting like we had no history at all, never afraid to repeat some of our trademark stylistic features. On the contrary, we highlighted and gave more value to them, to make our new songs sound 100% like us. We worked hard on the material to cut away all the useless parts and make the songs as catchy and straightforward they could be, and to make them sound like quintessential FROZEN CROWN.”

Ice cold Finnish modern metal band ARCTIS have announced their self-titled debut album, set for release via Napalm Records on November 1, 2024. Drawing inspiration from the mythical winters and mystical summers of the North, the Finnish metal minds of talented misfits ARCTIS fearlessly navigate their futuristic battleship through a treacherous ocean where ferocious waves of Metal clash against reefs of Rock and Pop, birthing a sonic assault of epic proportions. To celebrate the announcement of their debut album, the first single “I’ll Give You Hell” and their first official music video ever, has been released. The song explores the complexities of romance with their catchy anthem.
ARCTIS fuses nature and technology, inspired by Finland’s seasonal extremes, capturing the imagination of fans through storytelling that goes beyond the music itself. Led by the enigmatic Alva, the eternal Ice Queen Rebel Leader who shines with an ethereal presence, the band is rounded out by the formidable Björn the Captain, Michael the Magician, Mats the Rambler and Mika the Sage. ARCTIS creates a dynamic and captivating energy and elevates to new heights.
With their talent, the band will soon head out on a tour with Finnish symphonic metal masters Apocalyptica, and the band’s self-titled debut album will be released this fall. It was produced by Jimmy Westerlund (Sturm und Drang), mixed by Stefan Glaumann (Rammstein), and mastered by Svante Forsbäck (Rammstein). Join ARCTIS on a thrilling adventure that combines elements of both nature and technology!
ARCTIS comment on their new single:
“We’re excited to drop our debut track and music video, “I’ll Give You Hell,” a powerful anthem that was one of the first songs we ever wrote. This release marks the start of something big, and we can’t wait to share more of what we’ve been working on. Stay tuned—this is just the beginning!”
Watch the Official Video for “I’ll Give You Hell” BELOW:
Nordic mystique takes a futuristic turn on this pop-infused modern metal debut!
ARCTIS is led by the enigmatic Alva, the eternal Ice Queen Rebel Leader, whose mesmerizing voice and shining white battle suit give her an ethereal, almost otherworldly presence that captures the imagination of fans. The dark-clad, valiant men who move beside Alva include the formidable Björn the Captain, whose unwavering leadership skills inspire the band to greatness, Michael the Magician, whose mystical abilities and lightning-fast fingers leave audiences spellbound, Mats the Rambler, whose wild and untamed spirit infuses the band’s music with a sense of reckless abandon, and Mika the Sage, whose deep wisdom and profound insights elevate ARCTIS‘ message to new heights. Together, these legendary figures create a dynamic and captivating energy that defines ARCTIS‘ unique brand of metal and makes them exceptional.
Drawing inspiration on northern themes as metaphors, Arctis explores mental struggles and the internal battles within modern chaos. The strong opener, “I’ll Give You Hell”, delves into the complexities of romance, highlighting the inevitable downfall that arises from a relationship, where honesty and commitment are lacking. With its original version already amassing 5 million streams to date, Finnish modern metal act ARCTIS is set to add to the song’s impressive reception with the release of their own rendition of “Bimbo (Lambretta Cover)”! With a 2000s pop-rock vibe, “Remedy” addresses drug addiction and the steep price one is willing to pay for it. The mystical “Tell Me Why” paints a starry landscape of anger and self-deception while the enchanting “Frozen Swan” showcases personal musical talent while exploring the concept of self-freedom. This smoothly transitions into the upbeat “Fire”, which explores the risks of drug consumption, before flowing seamlessly into “When The Lights Go Out” lyrically exploring nocturnal metaphors through vivid passages. Closing the album, “Theatre Of Tragedy” features powerful guitar riffs, underscoring the limitations of personal human struggle.
Whether through music, artwork, or storytelling, ARCTIS creates a multi-dimensional world that fans can immerse themselves in and explore, transcending genre boundaries and offering a truly unique experience. Prepare for an onslaught of powerful riffs, epic melodies, and the raw energy that has never been seen before!
ARCTIS about their debut album:

About the song
“Liquid Gold” is all about partying with friends and having a good time. Created as a feel-good anthem, the song encourages listeners to remember to take time to enjoy themselves. The title, “Liquid Gold” is a nod to beer— a drink that comes in many flavors and is a staple of Belgium, the band’s home country.

About Painted Scars
Painted Scars is a brand new heavy hitting hard rock band that was fully formed in April 2023. They recorded their first single “Life and Alive” in July 2023. The single was recorded at home by the band members and sent to an audio engineer in Germany for mixing and mastering. It received very positive reviews by local magazines and social media outlets.
Highlights and achievements
As a try-out show, they organized a mini festival “Scarfest” at their home base in Erpe-Mere, Belgium. The festival took place in August 2023. The show, being a great success, triggered a series of follow up shows in the same year.
The band is known for their high energy show that leaves first timers with a deep impression. Heavy riffs and blazing guitar solos, combined with melodic choruses provide the crowd with a mix of head banging and sing along moments.
Upcoming releases
The full EP ‘Kintsugi’ is set to drop on August 17, 2024, coinciding with the second edition of Scarfest.

BRAINDRAG, formed in 2013 by Enric GS, has evolved through lineup changes to become a force in Barcelona’s music scene. With the addition of vocalist Mireia Pérez, their professionalism soared, leading to the release of the EP “Atreverme” in 2019. Despite pandemic setbacks, the band bounced back with new members and began recording their debut album “Coure Roent“. Their singles “Salta,” “Try Not To Fall“, and “Rhapsody” teased the album’s release in 2023. After supporting Elisa C. Martin on tour, they dropped “Coure Roent” marking a new era for BRAINDRAG.
Their album “Coure Roent” differs from anything you have heard. With soulful riffs, musically it is hard and sensitive, sweeping and romantic. It could be defined as alternative metal, sometimes progressive, powerful, and elegant, wrapped in technology and good melodies. It is an original and authentic project that doesn’t pretend to sound like anything else.
