Italian Doomster MESSA Signs To Metal Blade Records

Metal Blade have added Italian Doomster MESSA to it’s worldwide roster.

MESSA play evoking doom metal with middle-eastern vibes. Deliciously haunting female vocals, 70’s guitars and Arabian Oudh combine to conjure a sound that is all of their own. With influences as diverse as Dead Can Dance, Om, Swans, Killing Joke, Electric Wizard, Thergothon, Current 93, the band has moved from the first occult then noir-tinged doom metal of their previous works to a new atmospheric mediterranean sound which is unique. The evolution is clearly showcased in their latest studio album “Close”.

Watch the Official Video for “Pilgrim” BELOW:

MESSA emerged in the first day of 2014. Marco and Sara started to develop the basic concept while writing the first songs. Later on, Alberto and Rocco joined the band. The extreme diversity of their musical background immediately proved to be essential in the construction of the band’s sound. In 2016 their first opus “Belfry” was released, and the band made several tours across Europe and USA. In 2018 their second work “Feast For Water” brought the band on tour even more extensively. Their latest studio work “Close“, released in 2022, was acclaimed by critics and was defined “the sound of a band fleshing out their place in doom metal’s past, present and future” (Metal Injection). Some appearances made by the band were Hellfest Open Air, Roadburn, and Desert Fest. The band’s latest record Live At Roadburn was released April 7th 2023, offering their main-stage triumph, joined by a unique constellation of musicians and instruments. Seeming to both embrace and defy everything it means to be a metal band, MESSA mesh Mediterranean sounds with crushing doom riffs, with an emphasis on atmosphere and unusual use of instrumentation.

Comments MESSA:

Portugese Doom Metal Act SINISTRO Signs With Alma Mater Records

Lisbon-based doom outfit SINISTRO has inked a worldwide deal with Alma Mater Records, the powerhouse label run by MOONSPELL frontman Fernando Ribeiro. A music video for the band’s first, haunting single “Pontas Soltas”, taken off their upcoming album Vértice, is now streaming below! SINISTRO’s fourth studio offering is slated for a September 2024 release on Alma Mater Records.

Fernando Ribeiro comments:

It’s quite extraordinary that Sinistro, one of the most and darkest groundbreaking Portuguese bands, chose Alma Mater Records as their new home. We can’t wait to start working on Vértice and make the light shine over their newest and direst gems this album contains. Sinistro is back to reclaim their rightful place on the doom, post metal scene and to build up their legacy started back in 2011. Still a lot to come.

We are happy to announce that we signed with Alma Mater Records, a label we have been following in recents years, witnessing it´s ongoing growth and specially because it´s a label created by a fan of music, for fans of music! The band reveals. We know Fernando for quite a lot of years now, and see Alma Mater as the perfect re-vamping for Sinistro, its been over 5 years, but it definitely worth the wait and we could not ask for a better new home to unleash our brand new album “Vértice” in 2024.

:

Coming from the Portuguese underground, SINISTRO have crafted their way into the international music scene with their groundbreaking, fully instrumental and self-titled debut album from 2012, a film soundtrack ambiance and landscape approach with a Floydian touch that quickly established them as a unique collective of musicians.

2013 seen the band release their Cidade EP, for the first time adding vocals to their enthralling sound, that gained high praise from both national and international press. SINISTRO signed to Season Of Mist in 2016, with their much-acclaimed album Semente, they crafted and perfected even more their incredible songwriting skills and became sort of a rock/fado (typical Portuguese chant) to many.

Having toured and acclaimed by the likes of Paradise Lost, Cult Of Luna, Mono, Alcest or Subrosa, with countless shows in Europe and South America as well as high profile festivals such as Roadburn Festival, Doom Over London, Graspop MM, Metal Days, Eistnaflug Iceland or Resurrection Fest, with three impressive full-length records under their belt and after five years rebuilding the band in the midst of a pandemic and line-up changes, SINISTRO finally return with their new album Vértice!

About their first single release, the band says:

It showcases the sound we have been perfecting since our previous 2 records, the movie soundtrack vibes and the heavy density ambience mixed with a Fado sensibility throughout the entire album is a constant voyage into our world, the lyrics on “Pontas Soltas” approach the familiar comfort of repetition vs the unknown aspects of life, life is not meant to be contained but rather embraced and admired as we unravel the beauty of its intricacies.

Vértice was produced by Miguel Tereso (Gaerea, Analepsy) and will be released in September 2024 via Alma Mater Records. Furthermore, the band announced to play their first show in over 5 years, on March 16th at AaltStadhaus in Differdange, Luxembourg, with many more dates to follow soon!

BRUME Release Single “New Sadder You” From Upcoming Album “Marten”

BRUME demonstrate the exceptional range of their songwriting with the emotional roller-coaster ride ‘New Sadder You‘, which is taken from their forthcoming new full-length “Marten” as the next single. The Bay Area goth-doom quartet’s third album is slated for release on May 3, 2024 via Magnetic Eye Records.

ALBUM PRE-SALE AVAILABLE HERE

Vocalist and bass player Susie McMullan reveals:

I wrote this song for Jamie after his father passed away.

When someone you love dies, you mourn the loss of that loved one, you mourn the loss of the old happier, lighter version of you, but that new sadder you only exists, because you were lucky enough to have someone unconditionally love you!

Watch the Official Video for “New Sadder You” below:

BRUME (pronounced ‘Broom’) are living proof that California is not all sunshine and easy living. The San Francisco-based quartet organically blends doom metal, goth, and indie rock into a sometimes monolithic, sometimes delicate blend of heaviness that resides firmly on the darker side.

After a decade of sultry sounds and hair-raising crescendos, BRUME push sonic experimentation and delightful genre-bending even further on their third full-length “Marten“. The expansion into a four-piece with the addition of Jackie Perez Gratz on cello and vocals has opened a cosmos of new possibilities that the Californians determinedly explore. Weaving soaring melodies over melancholic doom pop generates songs that are equally intimate and haunting yet also massive and crushing.

BRUME originally formed as a trio in 2014 when guitarist Jamie McCathie from Bristol, England began making music with bass player and vocalist Susie McMullan from Baton Rouge, Louisiana after discovering a shared passion for both trip-hop and sludge. The addition of Jordan Perkins-Lewis on drums completed the line-up with his rich and experimental style of drumming, and set the stage for the band’s recordings.

The trio quickly gained momentum with their doom metal albums “Rooster” (2017) and “Rabbits” (2019), the former being named ‘Album of the Year’ by The Ripple Effect and the latter earning the top spot on Wonderbox Metal’s ‘Best of 2019’ list. BRUME also left their mark onstage, appearing at Desertfest London in 2017 and Desertfest New York and SXSW in 2019, along with many more shows on both sides of the Atlantic.

On third album “Marten“, BRUME perfectly balance the melancholic power of the cello with forceful vocals and dueling guitar conversations. The complex mood swings that seamlessly move from sensuous and restrained to soaring and explosive found a perfect producer in Sonny DiPerri (EMMA RUTH RUNDLE, LORD HURON, PORTUGAL THE MAN). With the right engineer behind the board, the San Franciscans adopted a songwriting approach that emphasised poetry and lyrics rather than starting with a riff. This way of working uncovered a more vulnerable side of the band.

With “Marten“, BRUME take a bold step toward their musical future by challenging first themselves and now listeners to move from comfortable spaces toward more challenging, less familiar destinations.

American Doom Outfit FRAYLE Signs Worldwide Contract with Napalm Records

Fast-rising American doom outfit FRAYLE have officially joined forces with Napalm Records, signing a worldwide contract with the premier Austrian rock and metal empire.

Cleveland, Ohio’s FRAYLE crept onto the scene after forming in 2018, helmed by original members Sean Bilovecky (guitars) and Gwyn Strang (vocals). Since then, the band has been lauded by fans and media critics alike, merging the heaviness of occult-driven doom and blackgaze with Strang’s distinctively eerie vocal stylings. FRAYLE has since expanded into a four piece, welcoming drummer Jon Vinson and bassist Jason Knotek to the fold, allowing the band to fully realize their “lullabies over chaos” musical vision. Noted first by Revolver Magazine as a band to watch in 2023, and then again by Knotfest for the coming year, the band continues to invigorate their already buzzing sway on the scene. Following gloomy performances in Europe and the United States at festivals such as Damnation, Desertfest, Soul Crusher, Gloomnar, Post Fest and Inkcarceration, FRAYLE vows to enrapture audiences with new music in 2024.

FRAYLE says about the signing:

We are thrilled to be joining the incredible team at Napalm Records. Napalm has always been the label that artists strive to be a part of and we are honored to bring our unique blend of heavy witch gloom to their impressive roster.

We’d also like to take this opportunity to say we are extremely fortunate to be part of the Oracle Management family, and are grateful for them helping us realize our goal of signing to Napalm Records. It was Oracle’s existing relationship with Napalm that helped to seal the deal. We can’t wait to see what the future holds.

Sebastian Muench, Senior A&R at Napalm Records, adds:

FRAYLE have been enchanting their fans with their unique way of interpreting doom metal since 2017. Their artistic vision and past live performances have fascinated us and enticed us to work together as partners on the next step in the band’s career. I can guarantee that the new studio album will be simply amazing!
