Brazilian Death Metal band CRYPTA unleash new single “Trial of Traitors”

Brazilian death metal band CRYPTA have revealed another furious new single, entitled “Trial of Traitors! After smashing in with the relentless “Lord of Ruins”, the first single to debut from the outfit’s sophomore album, Shades of Sorrow (out August 4, 2023 via Napalm Records), “Trial of Traitors” serves as the second harbinger off of the new record, breaking in with merciless, impressive guitar work and inciting an uncontrollable storm of pure rage that screams for more! Furthermore, its creative and devilishly brutal official music video supports the track perfectly.

In 2021, CRYPTA stormed to the top with their acclaimed debut full-length, Echoes of the Soul, landing at #55 on the Official German Album Charts and debuting at #15 on both the US Hard Music Albums and Top New Artist Albums Charts. Now, both fans and critics alike eagerly anticipate the release of the band’s new offering, teased by the bone-shaking “Trial of Traitors” today.

Check Out the Official Music Video for “Trial of Traitors”:

CRYPTA on “Trial of Traitors”:

“We decided to have ‘Trial of Traitors’ as one of the singles because, although it’s the fastest, most aggressive song on album, it still has a lot of our already characteristic melodic work here and there, so we thought this blend of these two extremes would be a good sneak-peak into what people can expect overall from the album!”

Formed in 2019 by former NERVOSA members Luana Dametto (drums) and Fernanda Lira (vocals), and now featuring guitarists Tainá Bergamaschi and Jessica di Falchi, CRYPTA once again stay true to the unique sound introduced on their first full-length, blending classic and modern death metal with significant extreme and black metal elements on Shades of Sorrow.

Fernanda Lira (bass, vocals) on Shades of Sorrow:

Shades of Sorrow is a semi-concept album which describes a journey through the depths of our psyche when facing tough battles. It’s a trip to the many shades of pain we sometimes have to face while enduring our lives’ challenges. The songs are the perfect gloomy, dark, emotional soundtrack for this journey.”

As a raging monster on its own, Shades of Sorrow begins with the instrumental piano intro track “The Aftermath”, creating an ominous atmosphere before “Dark Clouds” kicks straight off with feral growls to drop jaws, showcasing the full extent of the band’s striking interplay from the very first second. “Poisonous Apathy” features electrifying guitar sounds and prominent hard-hitting bass, creeping into the listener’s brain. Ruthless “The Outsider” unleashes a massive drum attack and another ferocity of coals, before it fades into a softer outro that melts seamlessly into the intro of “Stronghold”, one of the slower and more melodic tracks on the album. Outstanding death metal drumming on “The Other Side of Anger” sets the scene for threatening vocals, evoking an uncontrollable storm, followed by the dark and deep instrumental piano interlude “The Limbo”. Following the eerie, haunting “Lullaby for the Forsaken” comes “Agents of Chaos”, showcasing the undeniable talent of the band with its many changes. Relentless death metal tracks “Lift the Blindfold” and “Lord of Ruins” offer the last dose of true CRYPTA sound, leaving the listener breathless before the beautiful instrumental outro “The Closure” wraps the album up.

It is clear that the talented women of CRYPTA have created another impressive masterpiece with Shades of Sorrow, presenting the very best of their technical ability and songwriting skills on this 13-track onslaught. Shades of Sorrow was recorded at Family Mob Studio, mixed by Daniel Bergstrand at 33 Stockholm, Sweden and mastered by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studio.

Shades of Sorrow tracklisting:
1. The Aftermath
2. Dark Clouds
3. Poisonous Apathy

FROZEN CROWN Signs Worldwide Contract with Napalm Records

Italian power metal band FROZEN CROWN have inked a worldwide contract with Napalm Records! The five-piece was founded in 2018, and have since become one of the most influential Italian metal bands in the current scene. So far, FROZEN CROWN have released four albums – The Fallen King (2018), Crowned In Frost (2019), Winterbane (2021) and this year’s Call Of The North – which have brought the band huge media exposure, millions of streams and video views, and big European tours with the likes of Dragonforce and Nanowar Of Steel, as well as two headlining tours in Japan.

Their current album Call Of The North is FROZEN CROWN’s most mature work so far, showcasing the best of the band’s unique power metal style infused with classic heavy metal, melodic death metal and speed metal influences, all topped with bombastic production highlighting opulent orchestrations and harmonies.

Frozen Crown on the signing:

“We’re happy and honored to join the Napalm Records family and we’re ready for our next big step together! Since we founded this band in 2018 we worked hard incessantly, day after day, not only trying to put our best in our studio albums and live, but also managing the band all by ourselves, conquering every single little accomplishment with our DIY attitude, always keeping loyal to our (extremely) small entourage. Thanks to the support of our lovely fans, FROZEN CROWN eventually grew bigger, and got to a point where we were not able to handle it all by ourselves anymore. At the same time, we knew we needed more firepower to push the band further and bring it to the next level. And speaking of firepower, Napalm Records was just the best record label to start this new chapter with!!! We’re excited beyond words to be part of the best metal label in the world, and we can’t wait to start working together on our new album, joining forces with this huge team of professionals!”

Sebastian Muench, Senior A&R Napalm Records, adds:

FROZEN CROWN are simply one of the most creative power metal bands to emerge in the last five years. Their previous releases, Winterbane and Call Of The North, are brilliant. We look forward to working with FROZEN CROWN to reach the next level in their career.”

Pagan Metal Quintet ARKONA drop new music video for “Ugasaya”

Today, pagan metal quintet ARKONA have revealed an official music video for their beautiful synth-driven track “Ugasaya”, just in time for the release of their new album, Kob’, also out today! Conceptually, the album is a catabasis depicting humanity’s gradual descent into the abyss. Every problem of humanity is indicated in the album in the order of its inevitable occurrence.

Surrounded by tormented nature, the official music video for “Ugasaya” reflects the broken soul of Mother Earth and the dystopian world we are living in. Bone-dry earth surrounds a former beautiful lake as ARKONA perform their doom metal-inspired song. The shattering and dreadful scenery merges the rhythmic synths and a grooving baseline, creating a turbulent atmosphere with the depths of Masha’s growls and heartbreaking screams.

ARKONA on the new music video for “Ugasaya”:

“Ugasaya” is the third step out of 6, which humanity is consciously taking down the path into the abyss, thus dooming all human race to total annihilation. This song tells about an ecological catastrophe, the inevitable result of the insane deeds committed by human beings throughout their entire existence and worthless living at the expense of the endless suffering of Mother Earth. It’s about natural cataclysms and disasters, as consequences of human intervention in the desire to rise above the true divine essence of nature, resulting in all the elements rebel against the humans, and nature, initially being the only parent – Creator, killing its insensitive and selfish child.”

Canadian metalcore band The Agonist are calling it quits

After 19 years of being in the business, The Agonist have now decided it is time to call it a day. It was announced on the band’s official social pages, with a separate statement also put out by the lead vocalist Vicky Psarakis. Both express multiple factors being involved in the decision, with Psarakis emphasising that this outcome was a long-time coming. The light at the end of the tunnel is that many of the band’s members will continue with other music projects.

Dear friends, it’s time to make a very difficult but necessary announcement.

We have decided that The Agonist as a band, has come to an end. Much deliberation and care has been put into making this decision, and unfortunately, given the circumstances, this is the conclusion that makes the most sense for the band and us as individuals.

There are many factors that led to this decision. It is a mix of personal, financial and industry related issues, but in the end the 5 of us are no longer able to agree on a way forward that would benefit The Agonist business as a whole, while respecting each member’s personal lives and wishes.

We want to express our deepest gratitude to the fans for coming out to the shows, buying our merch, and supporting us over the years. Nothing is more satisfying than connecting with our fellow human beings via the gift of music. It is the number one factor that has always driven us- to make you, the listener, feel something. In the end, we know that we’ve accomplished this together.

Some members of the band will continue to work on music in various ways, others will focus on personal projects and family. We kindly ask you to respect their privacy on this particular matter and encourage you to follow them on their individual social media accounts to support their future endeavors.

Vicky Psarakis will be carrying on with her band, Sicksense. They have a new EP coming out this summer and she will be playing 2 live shows with them in Montreal, in June:

You can also directly support her by following her on Patreon and Twitch.

Simon McKay is currently looking to join a new band full-time, while offering session work for studio and live gigs. Also, keep an eye out for new music coming soon from his solo project.

Chris Kells will be focusing on his career as a videographer. Since 2015, he has directed all of The Agonist’s music videos, as well as many other established bands.

Danny Marino is currently writing music for 2 new projects.

Pascal “Paco” Jobin will be releasing new music with his project Leading the betrayed

Our US-based merch store with Sound Escape Agency will remain open. We have also put together an EU-based store for our European fans. Inventory is final and there will be no restocks. Proceeds will go directly to the band to help us pay off our remaining debt.

US & Worldwide Store: https://soundescapeagency.com/theagonist/merch/

EU Store: https://soundescapeagency.com/eustore/

Once again, we thank you and we love you.

“We will survive. At the end of the tunnel there’s always a light.” – The Agonist

The Agonist – Facebook

As per Vicky Psarakis:

This is the hardest post I’ve had to write to this day. Please, bear with me.

The Agonist has decided to come to an end. You may read the full announcement on the band’s social media pages.

There are many reasons that led us to this decision, too many to convey in writing, but I want you to know that it was not made lightly. This has been a long-time coming.

I want you to know that I am grateful for all my time in this band. 10 years of my life were dedicated to our music. 3 full-length albums and an EP: 40 songs total. 40 songs in which I poured my heart and soul and connected with you through them.

I want you to know that I am grateful for the tours we did all over the world. Playing shows is something I learned to love, but what I always loved the most was meeting you. The people who listen to our music, read our lyrics and sing along and headbang to our songs each night.

I want you to know that I tried. The very first thoughts I had of giving up came to me in 2017. I stuck with it and pushed through. Because of that we created Orphans and Days Before The World Wept, both of which were critically acclaimed and Juno nominated records. They were life changing to me in many ways. I am proud of everything we’ve accomplished.

Most importantly, I want you to know that I have no regrets. Because of my journey with The Agonist, I have met many significant people who are in my life right now. I would never have met all of you, had I not said “yes” all the way back in 2014. I hope you stay in my life forever.

Last but not least, I want you to know that no other band or project has been a factor in this decision. I am a full-time musician and my only source of income is through my music. My work with Sicksense, guest features and covers was always something I was able to do alongside The Agonist. Many artists are involved in multiple projects, so I kindly ask that you do not jump to inaccurate conclusions and be respectful towards what I choose to do with my musical career.

When I turned 18, I got into an economics university. Barely a month later, I decided I wanted to be a musician and dropped out. I had no former music training, education or background, yet writing songs was the only thing in my life that made things better. I cannot imagine a world in which I don’t get to do that. I hope you will be there with me every step of the way. I will be creating music until the day I’m gone.

Thank you to everyone that has supported me. I would not be here today without you.

“And I’ll hold out my hand

If my fingers should ache

And my grip starts to weaken

I will hold my hand to the world”

Symphonic Metal Icons SIRENIA Unveil Official Music Video for Second Single “Deadlight”

The symphonic metal icons effortlessly merge 80s rock and synthwave elements on their immense 11th studio album!

Symphonic metal unit SIRENIA have unveiled their powerful second single, “Deadlight”, today, accompanied by a visually palpable official music video! The international four-piece led by mastermind Morten Veland is set to release their 11th album, 1977, on May 26, 2023 – exploring a new style like never before. SIRENIA are positioned at the top of the scene, maintaining their spot for over two decades while gathering worldwide chart entries and touring throughout Europe, Latin America, North America, Asia and Australia.

The new single, mesmerizing album opener “Deadlight”, is captured within the magic of 80’s sonics. The world of soulful violin and fragile piano lines build up an enchanting, energetic atmosphere that is underlined by the impressive voice of multi-talented mezzo soprano singer Emmanuelle Zoldan. Transporting the listener to a retro auditory arcade harking back to when groovy synthwave melodies dominated the world of music, the international band merges late 70’s and 80’s pop rock stylings with synthwave elements and their remarkable, hard-hitting symphonic melodies – shaking the listener to the core.

Mastermind Morten Veland about “Deadlight”:
“Deadlight is in many ways a typical SIRENIA song, it has all those elements which is represenatble for our sound and style.
I find it to be a very melodic and catchy song, and a good choice for our second single off the new album 1977. I hope you’ll enjoy it.”

“Deadlight” is followed by the fast-paced “Wintry Heart”, which gives a bittersweet taste of early 90’s vibes and roaring guitars, while “Nomadic” represents SIRENIA’s characteristic dark and heavy side as shredding guitar riffs alternate with playful interludes while relentless drums and symphonic electronic elements go hand in hand with one another. “A Thousand Scars” marks a totally new fusion for SIRENIA, as heavy symphonic tunes dressed as remarkable rock riffs and poppy rhythms dance together with the feathery light vocals of Emmanuelle. With the eerie and epic tunes of “Fading to the Deepest Black”, the song is reminiscent of their last album, Riddles, Ruins & Revelations (2021). Kicking off with vertiginous blast beats and a mesmerizing performance by Emmanuelle Zoldan, a warm vocal interlude by Morten Veland supports the song’s stunning atmosphere before it leads into an impressive guitar solo. Following their operatic symphonic highs, the heavy side of SIRENIA is not forgotten and appears especially towards the end of their 11th record.
